Background & Experience

I am originally from the small Lebanese village of Kfertay, located in a Valley of Mount Sannine. The Noujaim family plays a prominent role both in the region and nationally.

I adopted the Swiss Nationality in 1993 and am well integrated. Switzerland is now my country, Lebanon remains my homeland.

I am a self-made man in the deepest sense. When I was thirteen, my father fell seriously ill and I was faced with two choices as the oldest of six children: work or ask for help from my family.

My pride gave me no choice, and I chose the first option with all that it entailed. I lived with the consequences of this choice for more than twenty years.

Not wanting to be a victim, I fought for twelve years to complete my education by attending night school every day after a full day’s work.

At the age of 25, I obtained a qualification in “Advanced Commercial and Business Training” which had the merit of belonging to the old school, where we learned to solve the problems encountered in professional life.

- My Experience in the Insurance Domain

My Employment with Rentenanstalt (now called Swiss Life).

16 March 1988 – 30 June 1993
During my interview with Rentenanstalt, the Principal Inspector told me the following:
“For the training, you need to allow a minimum of six months to a year in order to become completely familiar with all the subjects and become operational.”
“An external employee costs 160 to 180 thousand Francs until his account is balanced”.

16 March 1988
Date I was hired.
In 45 days I became familiar with the contents of about eight federal binders. I corrected spelling mistakes in French with the invaluable support of my wife and eliminated several contradictions which were submitted to the Principal Inspector for approval.

June 1988
During this month, I concluded thirteen Life Insurance policies.
On the first production statement I received, the General Agent in the area Mr. Gianelli said to me that he had never seen anything like it in his life.

18 August 1988
I achieved my first million in production figures. Mr. Claude Cuany, my Principal Inspector, favoured me with a two-page letter saying he was delighted to see that he had made the right choice in making me a part of his team.

12 December 1988
In less than six months, that is between June and the 12th December, my total production figures reached approx. SFr 3'200'000, which at the time was 20% more than the Swiss average achieved by the company’s sales group over one year.

At this time certain colleagues did not even achieve an annual turnover of SFr 1,400,000.-, which represented a loss.

June 1993
During the whole of my employment, I never cost anything to the company. It is a shame that although I made a lot of money for them in six months, they never thought to reward me for my outstanding performance. This is why I later decided to resign.

The following is an extract from the reference supplied by Mr. M.-L Scotto, the head of the company in the area, Quote:

[…] Mr. Noujaim has proved himself to be a high performing employee with remarkable integrity. He is extremely correct in his conduct of business and we have appreciated his great human qualities. Moreover, the excellent results obtained contributed greatly to Mr. Noujaim’s success and he was much appreciated by our clientele, for his devotion, the quality of the advice he gave and the originality of his proposals.

The Creation of my Firm

My firm was created in 1993. We offer Assessment, Advice, Management Consultancy and Insurance Broking. We registered as a limited company two years later.

In 1997, its capital was of SFr 150,000. In April 1999, we increased up to SFr 250,000.- in order to cover our investment in our Lloyd’s concept.

The Lloyd’s concept and all management and administration procedures cost us about CHF 750,000.- from 1996 to the end of 2007. Our certified accounts are there to prove it.

Developing good relations with the different Insurance Companies in Switzerland is essential when becoming a professional independent Insurance Broker. Although starting out was very difficult, the amount of business treated afterwards was so great that it certainly contributed to reinforcing our image and credibility.

After leaving Swiss Life (previously Rentenanstalt), my objective was to double my turnover. The results of the first year multiplied the projected turnover by three.

Several Insurance Companies provided references for us stating our seriousness and performance in the Insurance Domain.

The approval of the OFAP, the Federal Office of Private Insurance, on the 4th of February 1998 enabled me to become an authorized Insurance Broker for Lloyd’s in Switzerland. To conclude, throughout my professional life, three things have given meaning to my efforts as an Entrepreneur:

I have provided employment over several years to a large number of people. Between 1998 and 2002 my payroll costs amounted to SFr 1'214'762.-, which shows that I am an active contributor to the country’s economy.

I have strived to create something original using my expert knowledge.

I have worked hard to improve myself and the world in which I work.

I believe in respecting obligations as well as rights, and will fight to ensure that others in business do the same.

This is a fight I have been leading from the age of thirteen to the present day in Switzerland, where I have created the following motto, which appears on all of my company’s files:

“No matter what differences exist at birth the most important is that our conduct respects a universal understanding that we have the same rights and duties.”
